Eric Cournoyer
Eric Cournoyer creates handcrafted furniture and wooden objects that celebrate the natural beauty and character of wood.
In 2002, he completed a certificate in the Program of Professional Craft at the Worcester Craft Center, where he studied under Beth Ireland and Warren Fenzi.
Eric's most recent work are curious wall-mounted cabinets and shelves. Each piece begins with sketches and doodles inspired by unusual shapes, odd proportions and building outlines. The wood itself helps guide the design, with knotholes, insect damage, and cracks becoming features to highlight. These pieces invite the simple pleasure of opening a door or pulling out a drawer—and wondering what small treasure might be tucked inside.
Working mostly with hand tools, Eric values the quiet, reflective moments of the creative process. He hopes that sense of calm carries through to the finished pieces.
Somebody’s House was the name his father chose for a small store he hoped to open to share his woodcraft. Though the store never came to be, Eric has carried the name forward as a connection between his father’s woodworking and his own work.
Eric welcomes commissions. He enjoys working with people to create something personal, shaped by their needs, their space, and the things they love.
